San Diego’s public airways are in crisis.  The citizens of San Diego have been prevented from fully listening to progressive viewpoints in the radio talk show format.  Our options to hear something other than competing conservative viewpoints are almost non existent in San Diego County.  Due to current FCC regulations and corporate economies of scale it is virtually impossible to create balanced broadcasts.  As a result the airways have been dominated by an extreme conservative viewpoint.

The purpose of this paper is to lobby for an increased exposure to liberal/progressive viewpoints in the San Diego County market. This paper also characterizes the local radio market situation as known from the November 2007 Arbitron ratings for this area, just prior to the complete reformatting of KLSD which replaced the only Liberal/Progressive full-time talk radio program format by a sports/news talk format. We develop several potential scenarios that would lead to the airing of our viewpoints and concerns, keeping in mind the business and funding requirements. Finally, we have embarked upon a mission, one which is inherently liberal and progressive, to make the future a better place than we experience today.
